Nanotechnology is the study and making of small microscopic things. Nanotechnology is an "advance to the future"! Less Pollution: The problem with past technologies is that they pollute the environment in cases where we humans would die in years. A good example of a bad polluting invention would be the automobile. The automobile ran on gas and the gas fumes destroyed the ozone layer. Low Production Costs: Since the products that are able to be produced by nanotechnology will be manufactured billions at a time, the item can be affordable and effective at the same time. The problem with storage and transportation will be eliminated. If microscopic food was produced, everyone could purchase the item because of its low cost. The low cost could also help us produce the daily things that we need so that everyone will buy it everyday Electricity: At Purdue University and at the University of Chicago, engineers and physicists have found that a new formation of liquid drops with gas could make threads and wires. The wires and threads could be as small as a few nanometers wide in width. The nano-wires and threads could make other materials and create microscopic circuits as well as medical products. Most of nanotechnology is still unknown to us. There is a saying that "All good fruits will turn bad". There are things that we will misuse. For example, when we discovered nuclear, we used it as a source of cheap energy, as scientists experimented more with the substance, they found out that they can use it to make deadly weapons of mass destruction. Health: Nanotechnology could make everyday things so small; you cannot notice that it is on your hand while it is there. If there were to be a recall in defective machines, how will the scientists find, destroy, or repair the product. Mass Production: If a new product is mass produced, it is usually a cheap and usually a product that almost any person could afford to buy, use, or own. If there is a major recall of the product, where will the people look for it? What about if the product was food? Nano items in general are very microscopic. If there are even some in each household, the risk of inhalation is very serious. If the product got into the lungs, the person might suffocate and die as well. People can use nanotechnology to make new medicines and surgical supplies because the machines we have today may not be able to easily get to the spot it needs to get to in order to perform the surgery.

it is the study of particles between one and one hundred nanometres. The advantages are that the properties are different to those of the particle in its normal form, so can be used as an industrial catalyst (gold) and some have sterilising effects(silver). The one main disadvantage is the properties are completely different to the normal forrm so could potentially be dangerous, also they could be used for high tech weaponary or could enter the body and cause serius damge. It has not rally helped society much yet as it is still in early stages and has not been fully utilised.

Nanothechnology is : Nanotechnology refers broadly to a field of applied science and technology whose unifying theme is the control of matter on the atomic and molecular scale, normally 1 to 100 nanometers, and the fabrication of devices with critical dimensions that lie within that size range. It is a highly multidisciplinary field, drawing from fields such as applied physics, materials science, interface and colloid science, device physics, supramolecular chemistry (which refers to the area of chemistry that focuses on the noncovalent bonding interactions of molecules), self-replicating machines and robotics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biological engineering, and electrical engineering. Much speculation exists as to what may result from these lines of research. Nanotechnology can be seen as an extension of existing sciences into the nanoscale, or as a recasting of existing sciences using a newer, more modern term. Two main approaches are used in nanotechnology. In the "bottom-up" approach, materials and devices are built from molecular components which assemble themselves chemically by principles of molecular recognition. In the "top-down" approach, nano-objects are constructed from larger entities without atomic-level control. The impetus for nanotechnology comes from a renewed interest in Interface and Colloid Science, coupled with a new generation of analytical tools such as the atomic force microscope (AFM), and the scanning tunneling microscope (STM). Combined with refined processes such as electron beam lithography and molecular beam epitaxy, these instruments allow the deliberate manipulation of nanostructures, and led to the observation of novel phenomena. Examples of nanotechnology in modern use are the manufacture of polymers based on molecular structure, and the design of computer chip layouts based on surface science. Despite the great promise of numerous nanotechnologies such as quantum dots and nanotubes, real commercial applications have mainly used the advantages of colloidal nanoparticles in bulk form, such as suntan lotion, cosmetics, protective coatings, drug delivery, and stain resistant clothing.
