What happens in an abortion after 5 weeks?

What happens in an abortion after 5 weeks? Topic: Case study on spontaneous abortion
June 17, 2019 / By Shaylyn
Question: I may have got my girlfriend pregnant accidentally. We have not had a discussion yet about this but chances are, we would not be able to have a child and would require an abortion. This is probably due to the fact that we have not been together that long and although I am in full-time employment, my wage is not enough to support a child. My girlfriend is about to start her final year of studies and would not be able to cope I don't think. I would love to have children one day, but right now I'm way too young and incapable. What is required in an abortion between say 5-8 weeks? I don't want my girlfriend to have surgery as do not want her to suffer anymore than what she already may be thinking about the whole situation. Many thanks.

Abortion means ending a pregnancy early. In some cases, a woman’s pregnancy ends on it own. This is called a miscarriage, or a spontaneous abortion. In other cases, a woman chooses to end her pregnancy by taking medicine (called medical abortion) or having surgery (called surgical abortion). These 2 types of abortion are usually done in the first trimester (the first 3 months of the pregnancy). They are done by a doctor and other health care professionals in a hospital, doctor’s office or health center. What is medical abortion? A medical abortion is an abortion caused by medicine. It can only be done in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. The most common type of medical abortion uses a medicine called mifepristone. This is a pill that blocks progesterone, a hormone needed for pregnancy. It causes the lining of the womb (uterus) to become thin. For this procedure, a woman visits her doctor 3 times. During the first visit, the woman takes mifepristone. She comes back a few days later to take another medicine called misoprostol. Misoprostol makes the uterus contract and empty. Many women have bleeding for about 13 days after taking misoprostol. Light bleeding or discharge (called spotting) can continue for several weeks. After a couple of weeks, the woman will return to the doctor for a follow-up visit to be sure that the medicine was effective. What does medical abortion feel like? For most women, medical abortion feels like a bad menstrual period with strong cramps, diarrhea and upset stomach. Acetaminophen (one brand name: Tylenol) or ibuprofen (two brand names: Advil, Motrin) can help relieve the cramps. These symptoms are normal. However, the doctor will want to know if any of the following occur: •Bleeding through more than 2 sanitary pads in an hour •Fever above 100°F for more than 4 hours •Pain even after taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen How effective is medical abortion? Mifepristone is about 97% effective. In rare cases when medical abortion doesn’t work, surgical abortion may be tried. What is surgical abortion? Surgical abortion is a procedure done by a doctor to remove the lining of the womb. There are 2 common procedures: manual vacuum aspiration (MVA), and dilatation and evacuation (D&E). They both use suction to empty the womb. MVA uses a handheld tool. D&E is done with a suction machine and tools. MVA can be done in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. D&E can be done after the first month of pregnancy, but before the end of the 13th week. For both procedures, medicine can be given to help the woman feel calm. Then the doctor injects around the opening to the womb (called the cervix) with medicine to make it numb. The cervix is stretched open with a tool called a dilator, and the doctor inserts a tube. The uterus is emptied through this tube. What does surgical abortion feel like? For most women, surgical abortion feels like strong menstrual cramps. Women are usually given medicine to help with the pain and told to rest when they get home. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also help. Bleeding may continue off and on for a few weeks. How effective is surgical abortion? Surgical abortion is nearly 100% effective. Are abortions safe? When done by health care professionals during the first trimester, both medical and surgical abortions are generally very safe. Serious complications are rare. Abortion generally does not reduce a woman's ability to get pregnant in the future.

I'm not anti-abortion, nor do I think that such a law makes moral or legal sense -- punishing someone for a specific action (the doctor performing an abortion) while not punishing those responsible for contracting, facilitating, aiding, financing, etc. the act. However... assuming such a nightmare law existed, survived a constitutional challenge, and such telemedicine facilities for abortions existed... The police would issue an arrest warrant for the person in the other state or country. They would then presumably fight it out in extradition court with the other country likely refusing extradition since it isn't a crime in their country. Depending upon the law, the clinic with the telemedicine machinery would presumably be charged with some from of aiding or facilitating -- again, not logical, but I'm going with your scenario. This would be the same if a Canadian doctor say used telemedicine to perform some other illegal procedure -- say operating on a minor without the parents' permission. In the case of a Canadian giving medical advice... that would already be illegal in terms of practicing medicine without a license -- although this would depend on whether the person was paid, the information shared, whether the advice was specific to the patient, and the form of the advice. Again, not saying such a law makes sense, just pointed out that presumably it be applied against a foreign person using telemedicine the same way as any other illegal procedure.

A suction abortion would probably be used. The embryo is suctioned off of her uterus, killing it. It is quick. It's mostly painless (physically, but not necessarily emotionally). It does kill a developing embryo, who does have a heartbeat at 5 weeks and is a human. I'm not in favor of it but you asked how it happens. Why don't you consider adoption? It's also free (in fact, cheaper than an abortion) and will mean your girlfriend won't have to 'suffer anymore' as you put it. But aside from that, don't discount parenting. You can still go to college and parent. Some colleges have parent accommodation and daycare while you study. If you think you can't afford a child - a child is expensive - but you don't have to buy anything if you can't afford it! A pregnancy center such as the one I volunteer at has everything you would need if you couldn't pay for it. We have new and gently used baby clothes up to 18 months, breastfeeding supplies and formula, baby food, diapers and wipes, baby shampoos and lotions, blankets and sheets, high chairs, baby baths, baby shoes, hats, winter coats, even teething toys and new parent gifts. Our services are free to any parent who needs them and we are especially happy to help if it means you don't have to have an abortion. Just so you know it's out there. Not together long? Yeah, I wouldn't recommend getting married or anything at this point. Just see how things go and stay harmonious for the baby's sake. I wish you all the best.

Infertility, like any disease, is simply a sign that something is not right inside the body and must be fixed. How to reverse infertility https://tr.im/dIYEd I have worked with a lot of women on this issue, and have seen very few health related problems that cause such pain and anxiety as wanting to have a child and not being able to. The good news is that all the women who I have worked with who have changed diet and lifestyle factors have eventually conceived.

Abortion stops a beating heart.....your ending a life. & If your girlfriend hasn't said anything a bout a abortion then leave her be, it is not you choice.....& you should not pressure. Millions of people everyday have a baby with little money, but they make it work. It's not that babies fault that you and your girlfriend haven't known each other long, it's not it's fault that you can't afford it. Give the baby up for adoption, at least give them life......they deserve that much, they deserve a chance. You said you'd love to be a father one day, but what if this is your only chance..? Your only child, and you killed them? You have a full time job, just be a man.....take responsibility & support your girlfreind. When I got pregnant, I was just in shock....my fiance and I did not what to think... although we were together a long time before....we were just scared as hell. & he was acting funny like it seemed like he didn't want the baby.. & I looked at him and said, I can do this alone, I can and I will if I have too....You don't have to be in your babies life...the choice is yours. well....we are still together and we are the happiest we have been. I am 30wks pregnant and when I'm laying beside him, you better believe his hand is on my belly feeling our son move and kick til we go to sleep. He manned up. & when I asked him why he was okay with it all out of no where. He said, because the baby is a piece of me & a piece of you I couldn't hurt you so how could I hurt them....it is our baby and even adoption doesn't seem right I don't want our kid, with our dna, and blood out there wondering why we gave them up. Please.....just take the time to think a bout it all....& if you still don't want the baby then adoption will always be better than abortion. Please don't make this a easy decision...... "Every abortion is just, one more heart that was stopped, two more eyes that will never see, two more hands that will never touch, two more legs that will never run, One more mouth that will never speak." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2l1-kvKo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8RUPUH-D...

The fact is that abortion is legal in this country. The question is WHY! NO one will argue that abortion is a routine procedure with no more stress or danger than wearing a condom. Even the most ardent supporter of abortion will admit to the emotional and physical toll it takes. So ... the question is still WHY is it legal. It is NOT legal because the Women;s Liberation movement lobbied for it. It is NOT even legal because of the Rowe vs. Wade decision. That court ruling was just the judicial stamp of approval on a practice that was going to happen anyway. It is does NOT retain its legal status because of (fully justified) health concerns if the practice was to go underground again. It is NOT legal because we cannot agree on the moment in time that life begins. It is NOT legal because a woman should have the right to control her own body. However this is closest to the true reason. The reason that abortion is legal is because of the irresponsibility of men in our society. Man for many centuries has gone about procreating and in many cases not taking a fathers responsibility to care for that child. Irresponsible and reprehensible sperm donors have just walked away from the life that they created. In our society, if we are going to govern by the spirit of equality embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution then we MUST give women the same "opportunity" that men have ... to walk away from an unwanted, uncared for, disregarded and yes, inconvenient responsibility with a completely insensible attitude. The problem is that abortion is the only option for those who would exercise their right to terminate their pregnancy with impunity. No matter where you stand on the moment that life begins, abortion is a very extreme measure to have to undergo. Many women feel and yes, strongly believe that they have no other choice based on their circumstances. Can we argue with this logic? Not if we are being intellectually honest! How can we just look the other way when 100's of thousands of men father children and then simply walk away; and THEN turn around and tell the women standing their that they have to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for the child because it is living in the womb. We cannot. I have a challenge for those who believe that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. Quit trying to prosecute the partner in crime that got caught holding the bag so to speak. What we need to do is go to the source of the problem. Men ... IRRESPONSIBLE MALES ... who do not even have enough self control to exercise a little birth control. While I know it takes two to create this child but this is what I have always told my sons: It can't happen if you as a responsible man decide that it will not! We need to start challenging boys to make a decision about sexual responsibility from an early age. There is a long fight ahead for those who want to end abortion but it will be much longer if they do not change the angel of attack. Making abortion illegal will not end the practice. Making men responsible will end the NEED for the practice!
