High School Chemistry Problem. How big and atom would be if the nucleus was a basketball? Topic: Steps of how to write a report
June 17, 2019 / By Aubrie
Question: The mass of an atom is concentrated in its nucleus - a small, dense sphere with a diameter about 10 to the negative 5th that of the atom. Most of the size of an atom is apparently empty space! How can the dimensions of the nucleus and the atom be translated to things that can be seen and understand in the ordinary world? A basketball will be used to represent the nucleus of the atom. How far away would the outer edge of the atom be? I need step by step directions because I'm trying to figure out how to write up my procedure in my lab report.

The atom has a diameter about 10^5 times that of the nucleus. That is 100,000 times as large What is the size of a basketball? I checked Wikipedia for this and found that a men's ball is 29.5 inches circumference. I have taken this to be close to 25cm or 0.25m diameter. The atom will have diameter = 0.25*10^5 = 25,000m or 25km in diameter. The edge of the atom would be 12.5km away from the basketball.

I was in the 9th grade when I decided I wanted to be a nurse, I started volunteering my senior year (the hospital I went to didn't accept any volunteers younger than 16) and it got my feet wet into the hospital atmosphere, but not really what nursing was about (you really won't find that out until nursing school). What you do in high school doesn't matter so much to nursing school when you apply, though, the experience helps you. When you get into college focus on the pre-reqs that are required to enter nursing school and do well in those classes because that is what many nursing schools are concerned with (the school I got into also had an interview process and some schools require testing to get in-just check with MTSU's nursing program to see what they base thier acceptance on). Good Luck. Nursing is great!!!

Probably the most important thing you will gain is some insight into what it is like to work in health care. That will be good whether or not it makes a difference onyour application to nursing school. I think that just depends on where you are applying. My daughter is applying where we live. It is very competative & I have been told that all they look at is the GPA. But it may be very diferent in other areas.

As far as numbers I cannot answer that question accurately but I would have to go with Lebron overall. He had SOOO much hype playing with the Irish in high school. Back in the 80s and 90s and even the early 2000s, they did not televise high school games nationally so another player could certainly be the biggest and best of all time. But hype wise and for what he did, Lebron has my vote. Good selection of choices by the way!!

It would be MUCH bigger. Assuming a basketball is roughly 10cm diameter, or 0.1m, the boundary would be 0.1*10^5m or 1000m in each direction. Bigger than a football stadium (the nucleus is VERY small even though most of the mass is there. Hope it helps.

I havent been to art institute, but I know it can be rigorous, as well. You'd still have to meet deadlines and do homework. Perhaps you'd consider enlisting in the Air Force? You'd immediately have a roof over your head, income, and medical benefits. Once in , just mind your ps and qs and keep with it. You can make a career out of it and leave with a nice pension for life. It might be worth looking into.
