Want to start a business, not sure where to begin? Topic: Starting a new small business plan
June 17, 2019 / By Barbary
Question: I live in connecticut, and I'd like to start a small home office computer repair/upgrade business. I'm only in the super early planning phases, I was hoping I could get some info on stuff like how much obtaining a business license would be, if anyone had any experience running something like this some common startup costs, what kinds of stuff I should expect, if a business loan would be a wise option, etc really any knowledge would be helpful, I'm a recent college grad so this is all very new to me thanks!

You should be able to do a search for "Business Plan" and you will get a bunch of websites in return that will guide you thru it. The Small Business Administration site should be able to help you.

FIRST, you need to do lots of homework on this idea. 1) Read/study several "how to start and market a new business" books 2) Research your market - who are your existing competitors? What advantages do they have? How will you compete against them? 3) Write a detailed (I mean detailed!) business plan (the new business books you studied will show you how). If your plan reveals that you will need a business loan, proceed to item #4 below and ask your CPA for help in finding a cooperative banker. 4) Find a competent CPA - he/she can guide you through the start-up issues. Best wishes and good luck.

When you're done with your formal education you'll need to talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you'll start a web based business or one with a store front. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE. The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a modern furniture business and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them. You'll need to register the business with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan. Try this link : http://www.ychange.com/small-business-consulting-articles.html and read some of the articles especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business. Good Luck
