Here are interesting articles about drilling....The first one, dated 8/5 states that McCain and Obama concur that off shore drilling is a bad idea...and then further explains the reasons most others think it's not a good idea... The others are articles written about drilling and the realities behind it. In each one it states there will be very little seen for the consumer, one article says it would not be until 2030. The second to the last article is titled, "What Exxon Mobil does with it's Money" I found it interesting how they reinvest. The last article is from The Dept of Energy which has May, 2008 top 15 countries the US imports oil from. I read an article not long ago, wished I had saved it. It stated that China was talking with Canada and Alaska on helping to finish the Alaskan pipeline, and then exporting oil to China. There was another article I read about a refinery being built in South Dakota for processing of 'greener' fuels. http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/12/17/... And South Dakota also has a wind company. http://domesticfuel.com/2008/07/18/dakot... A very interesting article on the pro's and con's of 'green fuels' http://www.gothamgazette.com/article/fea... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/08/offshore_drilling_candidates_c.html http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/jun/19/MCCAINOIL/ http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/080716-Will-Offshore-Drilling-Lower-Gas-Prices-/ http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/19/business/19drillship.html?_r=1&oref=slogin http://mccainsource.com/homefront?id=0001 http://norris.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/02/01/what-exxon-mobil-does-with-its-money/ http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html Drilling is much more complicated than people realize, and I too agree that better energy sources need to be found. What I find interesting about this debate now concerning oil and gas prices etc, is the reminder of what took place in the 70's...at that time, there was suppose to be a shortage, which turned out to be a hoax. There's a familiarity on many levels to what took place then, as far as who was making profit on consumer suffering....

Oil companies will benefit but remember it costs billions of dollars just to survey and test drill contigous wells even if no oil is found. It costs more billions to drill and if there's oil or gas there to bring the well online. The US government and the state governments will also benefit immensly through the sale of oil leases and state and federal taxes if oil is discovered. Disregard anyone who mentions Oil and the war in Iraq-these are the same America haters that tried to undermine that war and in some cases rooted for the other side because a defeat would make Bush look bad. Now that the war is virtually won they have been exposed for the quislings they are

You do understand that George Bush funded an offshore drilling research project, and estimated the was only about 5% of the worlds oil could be found off the shores of USA. The price of gas will continue to climb over time due to it being a limited resource. It is only practical to develop other fuels for future use.
