Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: HELP?

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: HELP? Topic: Pictures of high school essays

Question: So for my Honor's 9 English class, over the summer we had to read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Now, we have to do 2 projects to present to the class by Tuesday. We where given a couple of suggestions and I've talked to everyone in my class and they are all going to do what our teacher said we could do (poster, poem, essay, 10 Lies They Tell You in High School, etc.) I want to do something different. I can't think of anything at the moment. So if you have an idea that is doable to create/write by Tuesday, please let me know. Thanks!!! =D

Try going for the 'silence' angle. Maybe look into day of silence stuff? Or maybe a tree with the 'lies they tell you' wrapped around it? Btw, When did they start letting books about rape into the curriculum? I remember reading that book and having the teachers frown down on it.

Maybe do a collage of words from a magazing and create them into words like, tree, rape, help, silence, art ect.ect Then in the middle you could have a cut out tree and a girl looking distressed and silent in front of it. Just an idea.

I'm not a christian so ignore this if you want, but for the love of god, don't go to an unaccredited school. If you are called to religion go to a real school and learn religion too. Many real schools have wonderful programs on religion and you will have a degree that is worth more than the paper it took to print it and you will have a real education besides. What would you like to do with your education? Do you want to convince others? A degree in divinity from Harvard or Duke will get you respect, a degree from " some bible college" will get you ignored by everyone who is not already a member of the flock. If all you want to do is preach to the converted just read the bible on your own or print yourself out a degree from an internet site. I don't say this lightly, a degree from a poor school is less than worthless. An intelligent, well argued position from a lay person is worth far more than the same argument "backed" by a quesitonable degree. A questionable degree ( and I don't know anything about the college you mention specifically except that I didn't see anything about it being accredited on its site) detracts from an argument becuase it raises quesitons as to the honesty of the person professing it. Many apologetics pages have people claiming to be PH.d's and when you look up the college it is some school that, for X number of dollars will sell you a degree in exchange for a two page essay on "life expereince." Don't get yourself associated with them. Get a real degree, read your bible, and convert the world. I wish you luck. Actually, having now looked at the wiki entry for this school, I'm guessing that you are just jokeing anyway.

Okay, since you asked... PLEASE don't go there. They are way too fanatical. For instance, their website mentiones; 'Absolutely no drinking, smoking, or dancing is allowed. No student is allowed to attend Hollywood movies, play cards, or participate in other questionable amusements. We do not fellowship with liberals, but instead take a strict separatist stand from the world and apostasy.' Would you really want to be a part of a community that is so isolated from the world? That ignores all other streams of thought, all other denominations, that is so out of touch with their surroundings? They state that they 'do not fellowship with liberals, but instead take a strict separatist stand from the world and apostasy.' That won't help you aid the Lord and make you a good preacher or social worker in any way. And from what I can tell, it's not even a good school. It's not accredited by any organisation. Though Mr. Hyles may claim that this in fact aids his cause, you'll be hard pressed to find a job with such an education. To top it off, Mr. Hyles himself has a bad reputation, and while I don't want to smear (after all, I don't know if the allegations are true), would you really take that risk?
