Question: What's the difference between messiah ben Yosef and messiah ben David? Can you please explain? I meant to put this in the R&S section.

The concept of Moshiach ben Yosef is completely misunderstood by Christians, especially when they try to use it to prove Judaism has a concept of the mashiach coming twice! Mashiach ben Yosef is qctually only a marginal side note in Judaism. In the Talmud, in a discussion over the mashiach ONE Rabbi, whose opinion is rejected (the Talmud is written as a debate where arguments are evaluated and then discarded, elaborated on or accepted until an answer is agreed on) brings the concept of Mashiach ben Yosef. What is the concept brought there? Mashiach ben Yosef is from the tribe of Ephraim (so it cannot be anyone from the house of David as that is in the tribe of Yehudah!). Mashiach ben Yosef appears just prior to the coming of Mashiach ben David (at most a year before) and comes in the case that the world is so corrupt and sunken in sin that the worst case scenario for the coming of Mashiach happens- the war in which those opposing Jews seek to destroy them. In this case, Mashiach ben Yosef is the person who saves the Jews creating an environment in which Mashiach ben David can arrive, He does not bring peace, rebuild the Temple, re-establish the temple service, resurrect the dead, etc. Where he is similar to mashiach ben David is that they are both 100% human, non-divine and with two human parents

Physical items are often used symbolically and that is the case here. In both cases, it is speaking of a cup of bitterness (a symbol for suffering).

Your first two verses are talking about two different cups. The second is just a figure of speech meaning, "let me out of this if it is your will, otherwise, ok."

The most beautiful wisdom and teachings of Jesus are not to be founded in the doctored works of Paul of Tarsus in the New Testament, but in copies of the original gnostic gospels of Jesus and his disciples. Nazarenes/Gnostics =============== + Jesus founded the Nazarenes, also known as the Gnostics. See: http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/nazarenes/nazarenes_0010.htm + One of the most beautiful and certainly the oldest of any gospels of the Gospel of Thomas- an apostle of Jesus. see: http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/gospels/thomas/thomas_0010.htm + Jesus and the Gnostics believed in the equality of women especially as spiritual leaders. + Jesus and his disciples believed in the universal nature of all divine wisdom, no matter what its source. + Controversally, Jesus preached that the Old Testament was a fictional set of scriptures created by the Persians and that the YHWH of the old testament, the "jealous god", the "vengeful god" was far from the creator of the universe, but satan pretending to be god. + Most controversally, Jesus and the disciples preached that the Sadducee High Priests worshipped satan and performed child sacrifices to him, while wearing outer garments of piety and preaching words of "love". Paul of Tarsus and the creation of the parasite ==================================== + Paul of Tarsus which the Sadducee High Priests created the parasitic movement called christianity to consume the popular message of Jesus and his story- to protect themselves and their power. http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/founders_christianity/founders_christianity_0010.htm + Paul of Tarsus hated women and especially hated Mary Magdalene. He ordered the writers of the "official" 3 gospels to make her into a harlot. + Paul of Tarsus hated wisdom and especially saw all gnostic thought and all Essene thought as a direct threat that had to be destroyed. + The christian church even today still follows dutifully the legacy of Paul of Tarsus in repudiating any form of spiritual enlightemment, equality of the sexes and the true message of Jesus.

Don't believe everything you read. The Essenses added nothing at all to the new testament, and the Essene Church you mention is just another misguided quasi-Christian sect. The authentic Church was there from the beginning, and the writings and traditions of the church reflect the whole truth. All the "organizations" you mention are wackos, with no authority, no history, and very little truth. For all the straight dope, from the people who were there with Jesus and the apostles, go here, and research all you like: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/index.html
