Pain weeks after extraction and bone graft?

Pain weeks after extraction and bone graft? Topic: Case swollen hands and face
July 23, 2019 / By Andrea
Question: I had 5 teeth pulled (left, bottom back) 6 weeks ago. I also had a bone graft put in place, same day as the extractions. The first week and a half after the dental work, I was in little to no pain. I was taking Children's Motrin for any swelling and "just in case" there was going to be pain. However, after the first week and a half, I started experiencing pain. However, the pain is only experienced at night (for the most part) when I try to sleep. I wake up and jolt out of bed, because of the pain. I went from waking up every three or so hours, to now waking up every hour. Also, I take Benadryl and Motrin before I go to sleep. I went to the dentist yesterday and she stated that "It's healing nicely", and that the pain is due to the healing of the bone graft. I was thinking that I would call up there today and see if I could get some antibiotics...JUST IN CASE. Is this normal?? If so, how long will this last....I have been in pain for weeks now and have lost a LOT of sleep. **Also, I had bone grafts done on the top jaw over a year ago, and never experienced any problems.

the upper jaw bone is soft with large amount of blood supply,so healing is quick in it.but in lower jaw the bone is rigid and healing takes long time usually 4-6 weeks.most of the pain you will feel is while lying down bcoz the body bcoms horizontal so the blood supply to the head and neck region increases while you sleep.the blood collects in the area where healing takes place so you wake up due to the pressure of collected blood. what you can do is always sleep on the opposite face side,do 4-5 times/day warm salt water gargles and dont put your hand on your face on the affected side while watching T.V or sleeping.it will soon heal.

Its possible you have a pinched or entrapped nerve. Consider asking your doctor about flexaril, neurontin, or (if all else fails) a steriod injection at the site. Unfortunately I am currently suffering the same pain after my clavicle fracture, so I cant say for certain how well these options work yet. I will try to update after ive "fully" healed

Unfortunately, I have had a lot of tooth drama. I'm glad you called your Dentist, it sounds like an infection.

Pregnancy comes with all sorts of aches and pains, even in early pregnancy. Unless you're having severe abdominal cramping, I wouldn't worry. That being said, it is possible that work and school are making your pain worse. See if you can get one of the smaller rolling suitcases instead of using a bookbag for school, and talk to your manager about if there's any way you can cut down on the physical activity you have to do at work.

The cramping is normal in early pregnancy. The rest is likely due to your physical activity. Neither would be normal for early pregnancy. Back pains are a result of a heavier baby (yours is under the size of a pea) displacing your weight. And shoulder pain isn't a pregnancy symptom.
